Dogs! Aren’t They Great!

I love my dog! She has been a great blessing to both my wife and I. She is not well trained, but then is our fault. She is on the other hand well mannered. I think it’s just part of her nature.

This is Jenna.
She’s a 3 year old Lab, Rhodesian Ridgeback, ??? cross.
We’ve had her since she was about 7 weeks old, and to be honest with you we had no problems with house training. She would let us know right away, and as a result, only had about a handful of accidents in the house. This was because we didn’t pay attention.

Jenna can be a dominant animal when around other dogs, yet never seems to asserts herself. She does well with puppies, letting them get away with things older dogs would not be permitted to do. For example. At the park a few months ago she was playing tug-a-war with a 5 month old puppy who reached out and bit Jenna on the nose. For this she put the pup in its place and the tug-o-was continued. Moments later the pup reached out again, this time biting Jenna’s ear. Again, she taught it a lesson, then continued to play. The play continued without incident for about 20 minutes before we had to leave. Had it been a mature dog, I can only venture to say what could have happened.

I know that having a dog is not always possible, but I think we miss out on some aspects of life without them. I think for a child to have a dog is a great way to teach them the responsibility of caring for something else. The dog will give so much more in return.  Believe me, I know.

Here are some quotes if found:

“Whoever said you can’t buy happiness forgot about little puppies.”
-Gene Hill

“The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.”
-Samuel Butler

“If your dog doesn’t like someone you probably shouldn’t either.”

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”
-Roger Caras

“I loathe people who keep dogs. They are cowards who have not got the guts to bite people themselves.”
-August Strindberg

“The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue”

“The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog.”
-George Graham

“Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails.”
-Max Eastman

“A well-trained dog will make no attempt to share your lunch. He will just make you feel so guilty that you cannot enjoy it.”
-Helen Thomson

I hope you enjoyed these quotes.

If you have a story about your dog, why not share it here for everyone.
