Weekend Writing Warriors – Restoration #17

Welcome to another snippets. It has been a restful couple of weeks over the Holiday Season and was actually surprised to see how much I achieved with nothing planned or scheduled.

I hope you will enjoy this week’s selection which is but a part of the greater whole. The idea is to present the entire short story to you 8 – 10 sentences at a time.

This link will take you to the Weekend Writing Warriors home page where you can check out snippets from other writers.

Winter WeWriWa

Demeas begins to track his quarry.

~~~oOo~~~
Demeas began his steep descent into the coastal port town of Irukan, a departure point for those heading north across the water to the Kingdom of Ghendhar.
To get to Ghendhar by land would require travelling east, then north and finally back west. It was a journey that took about four days, but Demeas knew that was time the thief didn’t have. By boat, those four days would become a few hours. He made several inquiries before he found someone willing to speak to him.
“Nervous ‘e was for sure,” said the old man. “Kept ‘is ‘ood pulled forward o’er ‘is eyes ‘e did, but ‘e was ‘Rhophyan.”
“Are you sure?”
“Carries a sword,” the old man’s eyes shifted toward Demeas’ sword, “like you ‘ave.”
Join me next time for another snippet as Demeas continues to track the thief.
  1. Loads of atmosphere in this snippet. I like the brogue. 🙂
  2. If Demeas knows the thief is in a hurry, he might make a mistake that lets Demeas catch him. This is getting exciting!
  3. Amalie says:
    Hmm…but what if the thief changes direction and DOESN’T go where Demeas expects him to go? Thieves are sneaky little buggers. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing!
  4. It’s good to be back after a short break. Thank you all foryour kind comments.
  5. Perhaps there could be another who carries a sword? He seems so certain but I wonder if it will not be so straightforward as he expects. Great snippet. Look forward to next week.
  6. Ed Hoornaert says:
    So far his detective work is paying off, but I doubt capturing Rhophyan will be as easy as it seems right now.
  7. I’m enjoying the world building and I’m happy that Demeas is on the move! Great snippet…
  8. Welcome back! I liked the snippet and the accent. I could literally hear it in my head… :S Nice work!
