Faldron lay dying.


“Thank you, Demeas.”

“For what?”

“Your friendship,” replied Faldron as he coughed, blood spurting from his mouth. “It was something I always relied on,” he smiled.

Tears ran down Demeas’ face, “Why didn’t you give up?”

“I couldn’t,” gasped Faldron.

“Tell me why you …”

Faldron’s face relaxed and his eyes closed. Demeas stared at him a moment and pulled his former pupil close. He wept and prayed.

  1. Oh sad! Now we’ll never know what drove Faldron, and neither will Demeas! And the story’s ending, poor Demeas will never get answers. Unless they come out in the next book? 🙂

    This is good. It gives me just enough sense of closure about Faldron, while still maintaining a sense of mystery.

    I loved the dialog and descriptions; it helps us “hear” their voices better. A little more context might help those of us who are jumping in at #41, though! 🙂
